For the first half of my career, I worked as graphic designer in book publishing. Initially, I was in-house at Rough Guides for nine years. I was responsible for art directing and designing large-scale publishing projects across the travel and reference departments, as well as custom titles for clients like Virgin Holidays and Motability. I also designed and picture researched many book covers.
Since going freelance in 2012, I’ve designed books and printed materials for Travel Photographer of the Year, Lonely Planet, Cool Camping/Cool Places, The National Forest Company and National Literacy Trust, among others and I’ve designed book covers for LSE Press, University of Westminster Press and Duckworth Publishers. I’ve also undertaken picture research for many DK Eyewitness Travel Guide book covers and spent a year as the picture researcher at JRNY Magazine.
I have 20 years experience designing for print and publishing and I’ve been freelance since 2012. Clients include Travel Photographer of the Year, Lonely Planet, Cool Camping/Cool Places, The National Forest Company, National Literacy Trust and the British Guild of Travel Writers among others.
Before going freelance I was the senior designer at Rough Guides for nine years. I was responsible for art directing and designing large-scale publishing projects across the travel and reference departments, as well as custom titles for clients like Virgin Holidays and Motability.
Art direction Have you got a book concept but not sure how to turn your idea into reality? Look no further, I can help you get your ideas looking coherent on the page and give it a stylish cover identity. Plus I’ve also got a roster of contacts specialising in editing, proofreading, illustration and printing; together we can cover all your production needs from concept to finished printed book.
Design & layout If you’ve already got your design sorted, that’s ok too. I’m quick and accurate with Indesign and I’m more than happy to design and lay out your content to a predefined template.
Pre-press Along with all those other fiddly things like colour management that need doing before a book can be turned into a pdf and sent to the printer, I can make your book print-ready and liaise with the printer.
Digital If your book or publication will have a digital life beyond print, I can help you create an eBook pdf or the right assets needed for its digital existence.
